How Old Was The Old Man In Home Alone

Ever wondered, "How old was the old man in Home Alone?" I mean, he was old, right? But how old?

Meet Old Man Marley

First things first, let's talk about our beloved grumpy neighbor, Peter McCallister, a.k.a. Old Man Marley. Played by the legendary Robert Hughes, this curmudgeon was the grumpy old man we all loved to hate (or secretly loved).

So, how old was he?

Well, here's where it gets interesting. The script never actually specifies his age. But we can do some sleuthing!

First, let's look at Robert Hughes. He was born in 1921, making him around 65 when the first movie came out in 1990. But remember, he's supposed to be the old man in the neighborhood. So, he's probably supposed to be in his late 60s or early 70s in the movie.

Now, let's talk about the timeline. The McCallister family is supposed to be going to Paris for Christmas, which means it's set in December. If we assume Old Man Marley is around 70, that means he was born in 1920. And guess what? Christmas in 1920 was on a Sunday!

Quirky Facts

Crazy, right? But wait, there's more! Here are some fun facts to make you go, "Whoa, really?"

Did you know that Robert Hughes was actually younger than Catherine O'Hara (Kevin's mom, Kate McCallister)? She was born in 1954, making her around 36 in the first movie. So, Old Man Marley was technically old enough to be her grandfather!

Who is the old man in Home Alone?

And here's a wild one - Robert Hughes was also in the movie The Package, where he plays a mobster. Talk about range!

Whatever it is, there's no denying that Old Man Marley is a beloved character. And even though we might never know his exact age, we can still enjoy his grumpiness and appreciate the mystery.
